The Wobbly Tourist

Just a quickie about the DBT. They've put up a free download for fans on Facebook. The download is of a song called 'Your Woman Is A Living Thing'. Also there's a video of new track 'Used To Be A Cop' (see below) and this is from a new album due out next year entitled 'Go Go Boots'.

I Still Believe 10/27/2010

Much joy tonight as Frank Turner releases the new track 'I Still Believe', an evangelical / gospel homage to the redemptive powers of Rock 'n' Roll, it's a singalong, humalong, whistlealong of epic proportions. Available on iTunes or you can just watch the video below.
As if that wasn't enough Frank Turnerage for one day there's also a fabulous bootleg of an acoustic show at Illegal Pete's on 16th October, 2010. I don't know much about the place but I think it's in Denver. The set is awesome and features new material as well as concert faves. The concert can be downloaded from : http://www.vinylcollective.com/2010/10/25/free-download-frank-turner-live-at-illegal-petes-2010-10-16/As it's a bootleg I should say now that if you are Frank Turner or his record company and you're unhappy with this then drop me a line and I'll happily remove the link.
Fans of The Gaslight Anthem (and who isn't a fan) and Fake Problems should head to http://gaslightanthem.com/2010/09/fake-problems-cover/ where you can download, free and for nothing, The Gaslight Anthem's cover of Fake Problem's 'Song For Teenagers'.

Moongazer 10/26/2010

First up tonight is the interview with Nigel Davies of Moongazer. I am as ever indebted to the musicians who do these interviews as they invariably provide a terrific insight into how bands get formed, songs get written and so on. The interview can be found HERE in the Interview section of the site.
In free stuff this week, 7digital have tracks by Frankie Rose & The Outs and Pagan Wanderer Lu; Ziggy Marley is giving away a free track called 'A Fire Burns For Freedom' click the title to download; Aquarium Drunkard have a download of Antony & The Johnsons covering Leonard Cohen's 'If It Be Your Will'. As if that wasn't enough Billy Bragg has put out his first e-newsletter and will be releasing an EP of songs from his Pressure Drop project soon. That's it for now, more tomorrow night I hope, but for now GO READ THE INTERVIEW.

Loads to post tonight so here goes. The review of the Mt. Desolation album is now up, guess where!!! The video for their song is embedded below. More news of Frank Turner's new 'Rock & Roll EP' which is due out on 6th December, catch up with the news HERE. And speaking of Frank Turner's band, band member Matt Nasir has done a video for BBC Blast on being a session musician / band member. It's very insightful and is also embedded below (just below the Mt. Desolation video in fact). Coming soon, I've downloaded through emusic.com the recent albums by John Grant and Belle & Sebastian. I know they've been out for a short while but I've been enjoying both very much and will probably review them both together early next week. In the meantime there's a glimpse of Belle & Sebastian in the video below and another from John Grant (you can probably find it for yourselves now). And if all of this wasn't too much already, then on 1st Novemer, Johnny Flynn will release the track 'The Water' from his 'Been Listening' album. It's a duet with Laura Marling, it's fabulous and the video is down there somewhere.
And finally for now I must end on a bit of a downer. I've read reports this that Mark E. Smith decided he didn't like Mumford & Sons very much and decided to hurl a bottle at them whilst they were on stage. We're all entitled to like and dislike bands, football teams, films and whatever. We can stand up and say this. But throwing bottles. I like Mark E. Smith, he's an icon and the creator of some of the finest punk / new wave music that ever was, but if this report is true then he's a prat. Grow up and behave. I don't like Jedward but I'm not going to throw a bottle at them. I hate Arsenal, I'm not going to throw a bottle at them. I hate David Cameron and Nick Clegg but that's enough for tonight.

The review of the new Bad Shepherds album 'By Hook Or By Crook' is now up. It's only available from their website or at gigs but will be on general release in November. Also up is a review of their gig at Milkwoodjam as well as more pictures from the Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly gig at Clwb Ifor Bach (Cheers Steve). And in other news there are more free tracks from 7digital.com this week by Delerium, Lauren Pritchard and All That Remains; also the Bella Union have some free stuff from Andrew Bird and Our Broken Garden; and just as the warm glow of the 2000 Trees Festival was waning they've put up the official video of this years festival (see below); and as if that wasn't enough for you there's news of a new Frank Turner EP coming soon. More info on that on the Xfm website.

Busy week ahead 10/17/2010

Picture
Certainly looks like a busy week ahead. I've managed to get a little bit ahead by putting up the review of the new Kings Of Leon album 'Come Around Sundown' up already. A video of the single 'Radioactive' is below. In free stuff this week, Interpol fans are being treated to some free Pixies songs. Interpol played with Pixies recently and this is their way of saying thank you. You need to provide your email address to download the songs and that can be done HERE.
In the week ahead I'll be posting a review of The Bad Shepherds' gig at Milkwoodjam in Swansea. While I was there I got a copy of their new album so a review of that should be forthcoming as well. If I'm really lucky I might get the Mt. Desolation album as well. If you're looking for what I think are the five best albums coming out this week then look no further than just below...

Well, come around sundown today I'll be off to see the Bad Shepherds and if all goes according to plan there'll be a review next week. In the meantime those folk at Amazon have yet again delivered and album earlier than anticipated so there'll be a review of the new Kings Of Leon album up by tomorrow night. In the meantime there's a reviwe of the new Antony & The Johnsons album 'Swanlights' up in the Album Reviews section. And it's a goodie. Speaking of album reviews, I've done away with the old star rating system and will review new albums out of 10. I'm just getting too picky in my old age and kept wanting to give albums a half star here or there. The system is very loosely explained in the side bar of the Album Review section.
If it's live music you're after then you could do worse than catching Rum Shebeen, The Supernovas and Beans On Toast on the 'Strummerville Westway Around The UK' Tour, details and a short video below...

I've finally got round to putting a review of the 1969 Key To Change album up in the Album Review section and there's a review of the Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly gig at Clwb Ifor Bach up in (unsurprisingly) the Gig Review section. There's a little taster video below for your listening / viewing pleasure. I'm in the process of listening to the new Antony & The Johnsons album 'Swanlights'. It's different and I think I love it but I'm still making my mind up. Review coming soon. If it's freebies you're after then Largehearted Boy has a track from the new Badly Drawn Boy album. Also, Daytrotter have a session today by Foals. Head on over and download.

Late again this week after a late night Sunday and then a broadband breakdown yesterday. So what have we got to look forward to this week then. Well, those folk over at NPR are streaming the latest Dylan Bootleg Series release (I think we're up to 9 now). A sample of this appears below but head on over to their site if you want to here much more. O joy of joys, a new Frank Turner interview (also below) is doing the rounds. All I want now is a(nother) gig in my area by the mighty Frank. The good folk over at 7digital have more freebies for your delight and delictation including a slice of very fine soul/funk from 'African People'.
Coming up in the rest of the week... I went to see Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly on Sunday (hence the late night) and what a show it was. A review with videos and photos later this week. Also, I promise, I will get the 1969: Key To Change review up at some point this week. I've been giving it a listen and declare myself to be very satisfied. I hope before the end of the week that the new Antony & The Johnsons album will have landed on the mat as well...

Five new albums for the coming week...

Apologies all but I've had to re-edit this as the site stopped working this week and I've had to delete the last post to try to get it working again. At least it's letting me post stuff now which it wasn't from about Wednesday onwards. So, no five for the week this week and there's not much decent new stuff out this week anyway. A quick mention though for the Centrepoint download only album '1969 Key To Change'. The album features Frank Turner, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Bad Lieutenant, Ian Brown, Mick Hucknall, The Feeling and others covering songs from 1969. £4.45 from the sale of each album goes to Centrepoint, helping young homeless people in London. You can download the album from HERE. I'll be posting a review of the album as soon as possible. Meanwhile I'm off to see Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly tomorrow night, supported by Tellison and Inconsiderate Parking. Review next week with luck.
Freebies this week include tracks by TrIcky and Twin Sister over at 7digital but hurry, they may not be there for long. Matt Corby has a new EP out and there's a free track available from him. Also Bella Union have released a free sampler. They're a cracking label and it's worth signing up to their news letter to get freebies, band info, tour info etc.
Meanwhile, not so freebie, but still worth it, Band Of Horses have covered Cee Lo Green's 'Georgia' and it's available for download from HERE.
Coming soon will be reviews of albums by Antony & The Johnsons, Kings Of Leon and Mt. Desolation. Videos for some of the Mt. Desolation tracks can be found on their website HERE. Then I'm off to see the Bad Shepherds supported by Ella Edmondson and Moongazer, Fab stuff. More next week!!!
